(mochi) Taiyaki 鯛焼き

To celebrate, we made mochi taiyakis in the prettiest shade of sakura pink and packed it up nicely to bring out for our sakura matsuri picnic or just for gifting~

crispy, chewy and best enjoyed hot, now you can enjoy this classic Japanese street food in the comfort of your home~

The BRUNO Hot Sand Maker is the perfect tool to make it with as you can simply swap the plates for different recipes. Plus, the non-stick coating means you don't need to use a single drop of oil to cook it! Check out how easy the taiyakis come off in our recipe video below: 

Recipe

Mochi Taiyaki Batter Fillings
50g Shiratamako Red bean paste
100g Plain flour Cheese
30g Sugar Chocolate
5g Baking Powder Anything you like! 
200ml Milk
Food colouring (optional)

 

S T E P S

  1. Grind and sift shiratamako into a mixing bowl carefully, this is essential for a smooth batter
  2. Sift in plain flour, sugar and baking powder
  3. Add in milk and mix well with whisk
  4. Add in food colouring if desired and mix well
  5. Transfer batter to a squeeze bottle for better control
  6. Prepare BRUNO Hot Sand Maker Single with Fish attachment
  7. Preheat for 3 minutes
  8. Fill moulds to about 50% and add in your favourite fillings
  9. Cover and fill moulds with batter
  10. Close Hot Sand Maker and set timer to 5 minutes
  11. After 3 minutes, open carefully and check
  12. Remove bottom taiyaki and set aside, then rotate and shift top taiyaki down. Return the other taiyaki to the top and continue cooking 
  13. Remove taiyaki and enjoy hot! Or, let it cool down and pack into individual bags as a gift or a picnic snack!
